The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues its vigorous crackdown on currency speculators in a bid to bolster the value of the naira. In a targeted operation carried out by EFCC operatives attached to the Taskforce on Currency Mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy, and Forex Malpractice, 34 individuals suspected of involvement in foreign exchange fraud were apprehended.
The arrests took place on Friday, April 26, following actionable intelligence regarding illicit dollar transactions in the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Among those detained are Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, and Abubakar Saleh, along with numerous others listed by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale.
The extensive list of suspects includes individuals such as Mohammed Aliyu, Sani Mohammed, and Mustapha Umar, among others, all allegedly implicated in unlawful forex activities. Oyewale underscored that these arrests are part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to cleanse and stabilize the foreign exchange market, underscoring the agency’s commitment to restoring integrity and confidence in currency transactions.
The EFCC has announced that upon the completion of investigations, the apprehended individuals will be swiftly arraigned in court, signaling a resolute stance against financial malpractice and a determination to safeguard the nation’s economic interests.
