Hausa musician Naziru Ahmad, popularly known as Sarkin Waka, has urged Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to reconsider the construction of additional flyovers in the state, asserting that the city has already seen its fair share of such infrastructure in recent years. Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, Ahmad emphasized the positive impact of flyover bridges erected by former governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Ganduje, noting their role in alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing urban orderliness.
Offering counsel to the government, Ahmad advocated for a shift in focus towards the development of neighborhood roads, urging against duplicating past projects. He criticized the utilization of local government funds, primarily earmarked for rural development, to finance urban-centric initiatives, deeming it unjust and detrimental to rural areas’ progress.
Highlighting the disparity in resource allocation, Ahmad underscored the necessity of prioritizing basic amenities such as water, electricity, and education in rural communities. He urged the government to redirect its efforts towards addressing these fundamental needs, emphasizing that federal funds are allocated for rural development purposes.
However, amidst his critique, Ahmad commended Governor Yusuf’s administration for its initiatives in hospital rehabilitation and the settlement of pension arrears, offering a semblance of praise amidst the critique. Governor Yusuf’s recent approval of funds for the construction of two additional flyover bridges underscores the ongoing debate over infrastructure priorities in Kano state.
