2024 WASSCE begins April 30 with over 1.8 million candidates

The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is set to commence on April 30th, with a significant number of candidates. Over 1.8 million candidates from 22,239 schools have registered for the examination, which will span seven weeks and six days across Nigeria and other member countries of WAEC.

Dr. Josiah Dangut, the council’s Head of National Office, emphasized the readiness of the council for the examination, highlighting the increase in both male and female candidates compared to the previous year. He also addressed the incorporation of the National Identification Number (NIN) into the registration process and measures taken to ensure security during the examination period.

Dangut emphasized the council’s zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice, stating that strict penalties will be imposed on offenders. He called for collaboration among parents, guardians, schools, and the media to combat this issue effectively. Additionally, he urged candidates and examination functionaries to adhere strictly to the rules and guidelines provided by WAEC.

Furthermore, Dangut highlighted WAEC’s efforts to provide resource materials, including past questions with marking schemes, and access to an e-learning portal to aid candidates in their preparation. He assured that results would be released within 45 days of the last paper, with certificates printed and issued to schools within 90 days.

Despite challenges such as non-adherence to registration deadlines, Dangut expressed the council’s commitment to conducting credible examinations and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring a smooth and successful examination process.
