Mass Wedding: Kano Hisbah Allocates 50 Slots to Journalists

Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander-General (CG) of the Kano State Hisbah Board, announced in an interview with journalists on Wednesday that the board has allocated 50 slots for journalists and media personnel in the upcoming batch of the state’s mass wedding program.

This decision follows the success of the previous mass wedding, which saw approximately 1,800 couples united in matrimony. The inclusion of journalists and media workers, along with other professional groups and trade unions, aims to broaden participation in the program.

Furthermore, Sheikh Daurawa disclosed plans to involve legal practitioners and health workers in the next phase of the initiative. Emphasizing the program’s objective, he stated that the mass weddings serve to reinforce moral values within society and mitigate immorality among young individuals.

In another development, Sheikh Daurawa urged Hisbah personnel across the state’s 44 local government areas to reaffirm their dedication to their duties or consider resigning.

This call came during a meeting with heads of Hisbah commands at the KERD conference hall in Kano city. He highlighted that the Hisbah management has furnished written guidelines to assist operatives in understanding their roles and obligations.

Additionally, the Hisbah Board has collaborated with educational institutions such as Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Amine Kano College of Islamic Legal Studies, Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, and the Department of Islamic Studies at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to establish a Hisbah Academy.

This proposed academy aims to provide formal education and skills training related to Hisbah operations, with graduates receiving certificates upon completion of the program.
