Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has pointed fingers at certain government officials and security agents, alleging their involvement in perpetuating banditry across the nation.
Radda highlighted the intricate challenges in combatting banditry, describing it as now morphed into a lucrative “business venture.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he emphasized, “It has become a business venture for criminals, some government personnel, security operatives, and individuals responsible for community affairs.”
The governor dismissed claims of political motives behind banditry, asserting, “The notion that political motives drive banditry is unfounded.”
Furthermore, Radda revealed that northern youths are enticed into banditry for as little as N500.
Addressing the surge in insecurity, some northern governors recently attended a conference in the US, drawing criticism for holding the meeting abroad.
Clarifying the purpose of the trip, Radda explained that they were invited by the United States Institute of Peace to brainstorm solutions to the region’s security challenges.
During the symposium in Washington D.C., the governors engaged in dialogue with various stakeholders to explore strategies for lasting peace and security globally.
Banditry, characterized by raids and attacks, particularly in rural areas, has led to loss of lives and disruption of livelihoods across the country.
