One Year Anniversary: FG, Lagos to Deliver 2,000 Housing Units

Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, emphasized the government’s commitment to tackling the housing deficit by expediting the completion of ongoing housing projects throughout the state.

Speaking during the Ministerial Briefing to mark the first year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term, he highlighted collaborations with the Federal government on the Renewed Hope Housing initiative, aiming to deliver over 2,000 units in Ipaja and Ibeju Lekki, and discussions with a private finance institution to provide 800 units in Odola, Ikorodu division.

These efforts, Akinderu-Fatai explained, primarily target first-time homeowners and low-income earners, offering mortgages spanning from 10 to 15 years. He outlined plans to revitalize old estates by restoring infrastructure and optimizing land use for increased housing capacity.

Addressing challenges such as non-compliance with established regulations and infractions like non-payment of service charges and unauthorized modifications, he warned of allocation revocation for non-compliant individuals.

Furthermore, Akinderu-Fatai emphasized adherence to original master plans and signaled a process of reversion to these plans, with measures to notify and seal affected properties. He hinted at potential government action to reclaim properties in violation of agreements.

Ensuring fairness and transparency, he announced plans for housing unit allocations through balloting, with the first ballot scheduled for June 4, covering Lagos State Public Affordable Housing in Idale, Badagry, and LagosHoms at Odo-Onosa/Ayandelu, Epe.

Additionally, he disclosed that 698 civil servants would be selected through the ballot, enjoying a 40% lifetime service rebate.
