Zamfara Governor Commissions Key Projects to Mark 1st Year in Office

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has initiated the commissioning of various “Zamfara Rescue” projects in Gummi, Bukkuyum, and Maru Local Government Areas to mark his first year in office.

In a statement released late Sunday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, announced that the first project commissioned was the Tsangaya Modern School in Gummi Local Government Area. This school integrates Islamic education with Western education.

“The state government has outlined a series of projects known as the ‘Zamfara Rescue projects’ to commemorate the first year of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration,” the statement read. The Tsangaya Modern School is named after His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who served as the special guest of honor at the ceremony.

The statement also mentioned that the governor’s project inaugurations continued on Monday, as he began a state-wide tour of the 14 Local Government Areas in Zamfara to inaugurate key projects initiated over the past year. These projects, dubbed rescue projects, focus on areas that improve the lives of the people, including security, health, education, and infrastructure.

In his speech in Gummi, Governor Lawal emphasized that the Tsangaya school is a significant project conceived and executed by his administration to ensure universal basic education for all school-age children in the state. He highlighted that the Tsangaya education system traditionally provided religious and moral education alongside Western education.

Additionally, the statement reported the upgrade of a primary healthcare center in Bukkuyum Local Government Area to a general hospital. “In Nasarawa Burkullu, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Governor Lawal commissioned the General Hospital, which was upgraded from a primary healthcare center,” it noted. The upgraded facility will offer comprehensive healthcare services, including emergency care, surgical services, maternal and child health services, and more. The renovation included new structures and the refurbishment of existing ones, such as an isolation center, mortuary, emergency room, surgical wards, laboratory, pharmacy, antenatal care, and pediatric services.

In Maru Local Government Area, Governor Lawal assessed the ongoing renovation of the General Hospital Maru. The project includes repairing all structures and providing state-of-the-art facilities to enhance its capacity to deliver effective healthcare services.
