BREAKING: Strike Looms as Minimum Wage Talks End in Deadlock Again

Negotiations for a new national minimum wage ended in a deadlock today as labour officials walked out of the meeting in frustration.

Officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) exited the 37-man tripartite committee meeting held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja at approximately 2:45 PM.

Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), informed the press that the walkout was due to the government’s lack of new proposals. “We are leaving because the government team did not have anything new to offer,” Osifo stated.

Later this afternoon, the organised labour will address a world press conference to discuss the way forward.

The NLC and TUC had rejected the federal government’s latest offer of N60,000 last week, escalating tensions and raising the prospect of industrial action as the May 31 deadline given by the organised labour expires today, Friday.
