An Open Letter To Abba Kabir Yusuf, By Auwal Dankano

Dear Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,

The images of your one year as an executive govenor of Kano State were very disturbing to me and and to the majority of Kano citizens.

I saw you sitting on the executive chair, given orders to demolish buildings estimated to be worth billions of Naira. The consequences are significant enough for the experts to compile a lengthy study full of bad recommendations, such as driving Foreign DirectI Investment away from our beloved state and rendering people impoverished.

The building sector in Kano is currently struggling with unemployment; yes, the clients are afraid of the second coming of demolishing. His Excellency, do you know that those demolished sites are now hideouts for drug dealers and phone snatchers.

Yes your Excellency, you have awarded contracts for the construction of two bridges in the state at the cost of N30 billion. Let me do the mathematics. This stinpendious sum will make our six out of 19 untilised Dams in Kano to generate jobs and produce agricultural produce. Secondly the contracting firms are foreign, so why not given it to indegnoius company. Thirdly it would have been better if the money invested in those in need of capital base.

Governor Yusuf do you know that our own state universities are now in sorry state. The atmosphere for learning in there have been bastardise, and students learn in hard way. That N30 billion can make them compate with thier sisters state in Nigeria.

I still wonder why at this critical time, your government sponsored half a thousand of state indigenes to go for the second degree at Indian versities. My fear is if they graduated you have no place to employ them.

You should have created an avenue where by our long lists of graduates will under go a one year internship on entrepreneurship. You should even use the Dangote Ultra Modern Skills Aquisation Centre, build by your predessor as a centre of that internship.

But this other picture is not less disturbing. You signed a law that redeced the Kano Emiretes form five to one, and reinstated the dethroned Emir Sanusi the second. I read your blue print, and you make emphasis on creating jobs, but the demolishing of the five existing Emiretes will increase the tally of unemployed youth in the state.

I know you want to contest for the second term after the expiration of this tenure. Do you know that you created unnecessary political enermies that will fight you at the poling box, and bring back the dethroned Emirs.

Is like yuu have chosen to serve minority interests. You have chosen to serve for one term. You have chosen to rewrite history of kano Emiretes. Why, oh, why your Excellency!
