Emir Sanusi Defies Odds, Attends NBA Conference in Kano

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has attended the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) annual conference in Kano, despite ongoing controversy surrounding his position. The conference, held at the Amani Event Centre, brought together legal luminaries, including the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip, and the NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN.

The Emir, who was invited by the NBA, addressed the participants through his representative, Mahe Bashir Wali, the Walin Kano. He welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of justice in society, emphasizing that peace and progress can only be achieved when justice reigns.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, used the opportunity to challenge the NBA members on the conflicting court orders surrounding the emirate issue, which he considers a state matter. He urged lawyers to uphold the rule of law and enact comprehensive judicial reforms to overcome the challenges in Nigeria’s justice system.

In an interview with journalists, Barr O.M. Femi acknowledged the ongoing emirate tussle but expressed confidence in the court’s ability to decide the matter, setting a precedent for future cases. He also recognized Emir Sanusi II as the current Emir of Kano, citing the recognition accorded him by the legal practitioners at the conference.

The conference marks the first NBA annual gathering in the northern region, and Emir Sanusi’s attendance has sparked interest amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding his position.
