NIEPA Trains Kano, Zamfara Teachers on Effective School Management

Kano, May 25, 2024 — The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), successfully concluded a 5-day training workshop on effective school management in the 21st century. The workshop, held at the Alfurqan e-library in Kano, began on Monday, May 20, 2024, and attracted representatives from Kano and Zamfara states.

The primary goal of the workshop was to provide Head Teachers and Education Officers with advanced tools and strategies to cultivate conducive learning environments, foster positive school cultures, and enhance instructional leadership.

The opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the American Space library, Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA Nasarawa, Kano State. Dr. Mrs. Grace Omiyale, representing the Director General/CE, emphasized the participatory and experiential nature of the training, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance the knowledge and skills required for improving schools. Mr. Inakoju Sylvester, representing the Acting Registrar of the Institute, expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks.

The workshop aimed to highlight the characteristics of effective schools and strategies for fostering inclusive learning environments, as well as enhancing the role of Head Teachers in the 21st century. It also focused on developing skills in creating collaborative school cultures, addressing the concept of violence-free schools, and understanding the impacts of climate change. Additionally, the workshop promoted team-building and proper record-keeping in schools.

Participants included three Education Officers from each of Kano and Zamfara states, along with seventeen Head Teachers and ten Principals from each state.

The 5-day workshop on effective school management has been a pivotal step towards enhancing educational leadership in Kano and Zamfara states. The comprehensive understanding and practical skills gained by participants are expected to drive continuous improvement in the educational sector.

The dedication of facilitators and active engagement of attendees were key to the workshop’s success. Moving forward, it is crucial for UBEC, NIEPA, and the Federal Government to continue supporting educational initiatives, providing the necessary resources and training for educators. The establishment of mentorship programs and networking platforms will further enhance the effectiveness of school management.

This workshop marks the beginning of a transformative journey towards achieving excellence in school management, fostering positive learning environments, and preparing schools to meet the demands of the 21st century. The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders will undoubtedly contribute to a brighter future for the education system.
