GUSAU – The state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Alhaji Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi, has called on youths to verify information before posting on social media to prevent societal panic.
This statement was made at the 34th edition of the Nigerian Army social media seminar, themed “Enhancing National Security through the Responsible Use of Social Media,” held today at Command Guest House, Gusau.
Alhaji Tasi’u Musa emphasized the dual-edged nature of social media, acknowledging its numerous advantages and disadvantages. He urged security agencies to develop effective methods to identify and combat fake news, particularly those related to security issues, to avoid being misled by criminals.
He highlighted the concerning trend of fake news dissemination, attributing it largely to unpatriotic youths seeking to achieve selfish aims.
The Commissioner reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to diverting youths from criminal activities by introducing robust policies and programs aimed at their socio-economic development.
He assured the audience that the Ministry is prepared to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance the security and social development of citizens across all levels.
The seminar serves as a platform to discuss the critical role of social media in national security and the importance of responsible use among youths.
