IGP Orders Suspension of Special Promotions in Police Force

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the immediate suspension of special promotions within the police force, citing concerns about the impact on officers’ morale and job performance.

Expressing his frustration with the extent to which some officers lobby for these promotions, Egbetokun stated that any officer recommended for special promotions from higher authorities will face disciplinary action.

Egbetokun emphasized that any future need for special promotions will be addressed by police management. He also banned the undue soliciting for postings, warning that offenders will be dealt with according to the laws of the Force.

These declarations were made during a ceremony to decorate 15 senior police officers recently promoted to new ranks. The newly decorated officers include one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.
