Kano Gov. Receives Award for Exceptional Initiatives in Pensioner Welfare

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been recognized as the most pensioner-friendly governor of the year by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP). This prestigious award highlights Governor Yusuf’s significant contributions to the welfare of pensioners in Kano State.

The announcement came via a statement released on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. In a ceremony honoring the governor, NUP’s national chairman, Mazi Godwin Ikechuku Abumisi, commended Governor Yusuf for his unwavering dedication to the pensioners’ welfare.

“Your Excellency, you shine brightly as a beacon of support to our members,” Abumisi said, praising the governor’s exceptional commitment.

Governor Yusuf’s notable achievements include the authorization and disbursement of eleven billion naira to clear the backlog of pension gratuity payments. Abumisi highlighted this feat as unprecedented, noting that no other governor has achieved such a milestone within a single year since the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.

Leaders from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Kano also expressed their gratitude to Governor Yusuf. They acknowledged his dedication to addressing the N43 billion pension liabilities inherited from the previous administration, which has significantly alleviated the financial burdens faced by pensioners in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of pensioners. He emphasized the importance of settling gratuities promptly and ensuring the timely disbursement of monthly pension allowances. Governor Yusuf assured the pensioners that their well-being remains a top priority for his administration, promising continued efforts to improve their living conditions.

This award not only recognizes Governor Yusuf’s past achievements but also sets a high standard for pensioner welfare initiatives across Nigeria.
