Tinubu Reconstitutes Governing Boards, Names Gawuna, Others to Key Positions

President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Nasiru Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano, as the chairman of the governing council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK). This appointment is part of a broader reconstitution of the boards of various institutions across the country.

Joining Gawuna on the BUK governing council are Abubakar Dauda, Nora Alo, Ibrahim Obanikoro, and Musa Abbas. These appointments come as part of a strategic overhaul affecting at least 31 institutions.

The reconstitution follows a directive issued by President Tinubu on May 23, aimed at addressing public concerns regarding the non-reflection of federal character in the composition of these boards. The president’s mandate called for a comprehensive review to ensure a more equitable and representative governance structure within tertiary institutions.

This review was to be completed ahead of an inauguration and retreat scheduled for May 31, intended to prepare the newly appointed members for their roles and responsibilities. The government’s move underscores its commitment to inclusivity and balanced representation in the administration of educational institutions.
