Recruitment Scandal: Police Service Commission Calls for Removal of IGP

The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has called on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, alleging his interference in the recent recruitment of police constables.

The union made this announcement during a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja. They also claimed that some top officers within the Nigerian Police Force attempted to manipulate the recruitment process by smuggling in names.

During the press briefing, union members expressed their grievances by singing protest songs and criticized the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for using diversionary tactics. According to the union, the NPF’s actions aim to prevent the president from recognizing the inadequate state of police training schools, which are ill-prepared to train the new recruits due to poor facility conditions.

This controversy arose after the Police Service Commission released a list of 10,000 successful candidates from the latest recruitment exercise. The Nigerian Police Force subsequently rejected this list, alleging that the recruitment process was fraudulent.
