Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo Leads Zamfara Airport Inauguration

Gusau, Zamfara State – The much-anticipated inauguration of the Zamfara State Airport is set to proceed, with final preparations currently in full swing. The Aviation Minister, Honorable Festus Keyamo, is spearheading these efforts under the collaborative leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.

Governor Lawal announced the upcoming visit of Minister Keyamo via his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter). In his post, he expressed his pleasure at hosting the Minister in Gusau, the state capital. Governor Lawal’s message read:

“Earlier today, at my office in Gusau, I had the pleasure of welcoming my brother and the esteemed Honourable Minister for Aviation, Festus Keyamo SAN. His visit was at my invitation and is in anticipation of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gusau International Airport, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow by the grace of God.”

The governor highlighted the significance of this visit, emphasizing that it demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to working alongside Zamfara State to achieve the shared goal of enhancing the state’s connectivity and commercial potential on a global scale.

Zamfara remains the only state in Nigeria without an operational airport, a situation that has persisted despite several administrations. Previous governors have been criticized for their lack of initiative in addressing this infrastructural gap. Notably, during Bello Matawalle’s tenure, there was an attempt to commence the airport project, but it ultimately ended in abandonment.

Governor Dauda Lawal, however, has taken a more proactive stance. Since assuming office, he has been dedicated to reviving and completing the airport project, which is seen as critical to the state’s economic development and integration into the national and international transport network.
