Kano Govt Furiously Attacks NNPP Lawmakers Over Emirate Dispute

The Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to the Kano State Governor, Salisu Yahaya Hotoro has publicly criticized lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for their inaction regarding the ongoing Kano emirate controversy.

Hotoro’s critique specifically targets Senator Kawu Sumaila of Kano South, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga of Kano Central, and 17 other NNPP members in the National Assembly.

Through a post shared on his verified Facebook account, Hotoro, writing in Hausa, expressed his dissatisfaction with the lawmakers’ silence on the issue, despite their prominent roles.

“I am referring to our 17 members of the National Assembly and our two senators elected under the NNPP banner, representing us in Abuja. Individuals like Aliyu Madaki, AJ Kofa, Kawu Sumaila, and Senator Hanga—this is the time for them to speak out about the situation in Kano,” part of Hotoro’s post read.

He lamented the absence of their voices during this critical period, urging them to alert the president, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Inspector-General to prioritize justice over politics.

Hotoro stressed that the current dispute impacts the dignity of both the governor and the NNPP federal lawmakers. He acknowledged that the parliament is on vacation but insisted that this should not hinder the senators from addressing the issue.

He urged lawmakers to utilize national and international media platforms to denounce the disrespect faced by Kano and advocate for an urgent assembly session.

Hotoro’s comments come as the Kano State Police Command calls for calm and patriotism from the public ahead of sensitive court hearings related to the emirate dispute. In a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Thursday, the command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and warned against inciting violence.
