In a violent altercation between rival terrorist factions in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, at least 16 terrorists, including two high-ranking commanders, were killed early Friday morning.
Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the incident on X (formerly Twitter), identifying the slain commanders as Alhaji Nagala and Maikube. These two factions have been embroiled in a fierce battle for supremacy and territorial control.
Makama detailed the incident, stating:
“In a shocking turn of events, rival terrorist groups clashed violently in a remote northwestern region of Maru LGA, causing significant casualties. The factions have been a source of terror in the peaceful community.”
Sources indicate that the clash erupted over an attempt by one faction to seize a strategic area controlled by the opposing group. The confrontation was intense, leading to heavy losses on both sides.
Intelligence sources confirmed to Makama that at least 16 terrorists were killed in the clash, including several top commanders. Among the prominent fatalities were Alhaji Nagala and Maikube. The factions had been at odds for months, with tensions escalating recently.
