Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Bauchi elected Bala Bawaji of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Globe FM Bauchi as its State Chairman.
Other State executives of the association in Bauchi whose election was held yesterday at the State NUJ Secretariat are Adamu Shehu Imam of the Trust TV as Vice Chairman; and Elizabeth Kar of the Bauchi State Television (BATV) as Secretary.
Others elected included Selya Yarnap as Treasurer; Abubakar Usman Shehu – Financial Secretary; Imrana Yakubu Galaje – Welfare officer; Mubarak Aliyu Bako – Assistant Secretary; Mohammed Nasiru Shuaibu – Ex-officio and Abdullahi Shehu Yankari – Ex-officio.
The state SWAN chairman, Bala Bawaji has in a post-election speech said that “We have suffered enough before reaching this point, therefore, we are going to take all issues with seriousness for the development of the association and sporting activities in the state.”
Bawaji called the association members to support and cooperate with the Executives as they shouldered the enormous task of moving SWAN forward in Bauchi state.
The chairman assured that the Executives have a very good plan to uplift this association to greater height, hence the need for their support and cooperation, as he urged members to be united towards meeting the desired goals.
Also speaking, SWAN National President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, urged members to be guided by code of conduct and operational procedures or code of ethics.
He said SWAN has made significant achievements towards professionalizing, added that the Association under his watch is committed to ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with the provision of the statute and with utmost professionalism including this election we are about to witness.
Represented by association’s vice president North East zone, Comrade Ahmed Kagana Amshi, recalled that in recent time the association has reviewed it’s website to accommodate a lot of innovations and standardized its registration procedures for effective membership regulations and operations.
He urged all members in Bauchi State to use the link provided by the association to register not only that but monitor its activities and viable features provided on the website.
“I would like to encourage the state SWANECO committee chairman Mr Ishola Michael and his members to meticulously adhere to the election procedures and leave no room for error.”
“To our esteemed members we urge you to pick disciples as your watchword anyway you find yourself. The election we’re about to witness should not be a do or die affair, we should always learn from the give and take concepts,” the president said.
The SWAN president also requested permission from the Bauchi State Government to organize a national SWAN event, such as a Full Council Meeting, NEC meeting or Zonal Meeting, to solidify SWAN’s presence in Bauchi State.
The election was monitored and supervised by Comrade Ahmed Kagana Amshi Vice President North East Zone with the support of the National Welfare officer Mr. Austin Ajayi and National Ex-officio Alh Shehu Abass aka Osculator.
