Tragedy at Air Force School: Student Punish to Death by Senior Colleagues in Kaduna

A tragic incident has occurred at Airforce Comprehensive School, Kaduna, where a 15-year-old student, Blaise Felix Aliyu, was allegedly killed by two Senior Secondary (SS3) students in the dormitory located within the Airforce Base in Mando, Kaduna.

Felix, an orphan who lost his parents in 2013, leaves behind a twin brother who is a JSS2 student at the same military boarding school.

The body of Felix has been deposited in the mortuary as an investigation is underway to determine the cause of his death. The Nigerian Airforce, which operates the school, has not disclosed the victim’s identity or the specifics of his death but confirmed that a thorough investigation is ongoing.

Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), stated, “The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, and indeed the entire NAF family are saddened by the painful and unfortunate incident of the untimely death of one of our students at Air Force Secondary School, Kaduna on June 19, 2024.”

“To avoid all sorts of speculations, a thorough investigation is currently ongoing to unravel how, why, and what actually led to the death of the victim. Rest assured that this matter is receiving the utmost urgency it deserves, and we won’t rest until it is unraveled,” the statement added.

An official at the Airforce Base, who spoke on condition of anonymity, corroborated the details, stating that the incident occurred on June 19, 2024. According to the official, two SS3 students invited Felix to their room under the pretext of punishing him, which resulted in his death.

“It is alleged that the two SS3 students, who had just finished their WAEC and were awaiting their NECO examination, tortured Felix with an electric iron until he died. Initially, it was reported that Felix was electrocuted while ironing clothes, but later findings indicated it was a case of murder. The two students suspected of the act have been arrested,” the official revealed.

A relative of the victim, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details. The chairman of the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA), in a message on the PTA WhatsApp platform, claimed that Felix died after being punished by a senior student. The punishment involved an illegal electrical connection in the room, leading to Felix being electrocuted upon contact with an iron bed.

Attempts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command for comments on the incident were unsuccessful.
