Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2019 and 2023, has declared that he will not work with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing its unwillingness to accommodate diverse ideas.
In a candid interview on the “MIC ON For The Independent Mind Podcast” with Seun Okinbaloye, Sowore expressed his reservations about Tinubu’s government, stating it lacks the “bandwidth to accommodate our ideas.”
Sowore dismissed the possibility of forming alliances with political parties he believes are intent on exploiting the Nigerian populace. He criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a coalition of disgruntled former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The APC became an alliance of disgruntled PDP members – the Sarakis, Amaechis, all of them came together and formed the APC; alliances that are aimed at stealing and robbing the Nigerian people of their commonwealth,” Sowore asserted, referring to Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, and Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation.
When questioned about the prospect of cooperating with the current administration, Sowore responded emphatically, “No, they don’t have the bandwidth to accommodate our ideas.”
He further questioned the ability of any new political alliances to effect genuine change, citing past examples. “You think that the DNAs of the new group in alliance or the mega party will change because Peter Obi has new followers? Was he able to change it when he was in PDP? Did he change it when he was in APGA (All Progressives Grand Alliance)? Why are you lying to yourselves?” Sowore remarked.
Highlighting issues of integrity within the political class, Sowore noted that only two individuals rejected the SUVs procured and distributed by the National Assembly to its members. He identified one of them as Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
