Analyst Predicts Revolution that Will Consume Tinubu Govt May Start from North

Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has predicted that the current Nigerian system, under President Bola Tinubu, is unsustainable and that the revolution which will destabilize his government will originate from the Northern region of the country. In an interview circulating on social media, Farotimi emphasized that the uprising against the hardships caused by Tinubu’s administration will not begin in Eastern Nigeria.

Farotimi explained that the average Igbo person has learned to be self-reliant and does not depend on the government for survival. “Long ago, I predicted that the Nigerian revolution would start in Northern Nigeria. The only reason I said so at the time is because the North had always been the reason we could not find a common purpose to fight the evil,” he stated.

Farotimi noted that with Tinubu, a non-northerner and a nominal Muslim, in power, the widespread suffering has been democratized, leaving the Northern streets, rather than the elites, unwilling to endure continued hardship. “Why is it that all of a sudden, everything they tolerated in all the years of Muhammadu Buhari is no longer tolerable?” he questioned.

He expressed certainty that if the current state of affairs persists, the ensuing crisis that will engulf Tinubu’s government will emanate from the North. “It might seem like nothing is going to happen but something will definitely happen. This system is not sustainable,” he asserted.

Elaborating on his viewpoint, Farotimi highlighted the resilience of the Igbo community. “You will rarely find an Igbo man applying to civil service or looking for a salary job. The average ones, even those with university degrees, often learn a trade and are self-reliant. They have learned to do without the government,” he said.

According to Farotimi, this self-sufficiency equips the Igbo people better than any other group to cope with the current circumstances where the government is perceived as ineffective. “The Igbo man was already prepared for the uselessness of the government. Now that he is prepared for it and everyone wants to stigmatize him, I can’t blame the Igbo man for turning around and saying, ‘it is none of my business, enjoy your government.’”

He further criticized political figures like Orji Uzor Kalu and Rochas Okorocha, suggesting that they have profited by appeasing the government and do not represent the average Igbo person. “The average Igbo man on the street grew up believing that he has no portion in Nigeria, which fed the Biafran spirit and demand for Biafra even 50 years after the civil war,” he added.

Farotimi concluded by reiterating that the Igbo community has long understood that the government offers them little, thus they have learned to be self-sufficient. “The Igbo man learnt that the Government has nothing for him, so he learnt to survive on his own,” he said.
