Shehu Sani Claims Politicians’ Visit to Buhari Aims to Unseat Tinubu in 2027

Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, has claimed that recent visits by notable northern politicians to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, are part of a strategy to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Sani pointed to figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently visited Buhari during Sallah in Daura, as being involved in this plot.

Buhari transferred power to Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress candidate, on May 29, 2023. Tinubu won the election with 8,794,726 votes against Abubakar’s 6,984,520 votes.

Sani, an activist, stated that these northern politicians aim to revive Buhari’s political influence and mobilize support based on regional sentiment, a strategy he believes will ultimately fail. He called on northerners to reject these efforts to oust Tinubu, asserting that these politicians have nothing substantial to offer.

In a post on his verified Facebook handle, Sani remarked, “The recent visits by some prominent Northern politicians to Daura appear to be the usual Eid homage, but deeper analysis reveals an attempt to build a northern alliance using ex-President Buhari as a rallying point to challenge President Tinubu in 2027. This project will eventually fail.”

He continued, “They seek to resurrect Buhari’s political influence and mobilize supporters on regional lines, ignoring the potential divisiveness of such actions. During Buhari’s eight-year tenure, poverty and insecurity in the North worsened. Their current attempts could undermine democratic processes and national unity.”

Sani highlighted that no southerner challenged Buhari during his presidency, condemning the northern politicians’ early plotting against Tinubu. He warned that their obsession with power could destabilize the country and called for northerners to reject these figures, noting their previous failures in governance.

“The Daura homage will fail. Northerners should reject these politicians and their plots. They have nothing to offer. Their tenure saw the North plagued by terrorism and banditry. Northern citizens should see through their antics,” Sani concluded.
