On Monday, bandits launched a violent attack on the Danbaza community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting over 50 individuals.
Among those kidnapped were eleven members of a single family, as confirmed by Mustapha Danbaza, a resident of the village.
Mustapha also revealed that just a few weeks prior, a commercial vehicle filled with passengers was similarly attacked by bandits in the same area. The fate of those victims remains unknown.
Maradun, the hometown of former governor Bello Matawalle, who now serves as Minister of State for Defense, has been repeatedly targeted by armed bandits. The most recent attack before this one occurred in the Gora community, where several residents were abducted.
The region, including Janbako and other neighboring villages, has been under constant threat from armed bandits for some time, leading to significant distress and insecurity among the local population.
ASP Yazid, the spokesman for the State Police Command, stated that he would verify the details of the incident and provide a report to the press.
