Court Intervenes in Sokoto District Heads’ Case, Orders Maintenance of Status Quo

On June 13, 2024, the Sokoto High Court, led by Justice Kabiru I. Ahmed, issued an order for maintaining the status quo in favor of District Heads facing removal in Sokoto State. The ruling came in response to ex parte applications filed by Alhaji Buhari Dahiru Tambuwal and Alhaji Abubakar Kassim in cases SS/M.290/2024 and SS/M.293/2024.

The court directed the Governor of Sokoto State, the Attorney General, and the Sokoto Sultanate Council to halt any actions related to the removal or dethronement of District Heads, including Tambuwal and Kebbe. This injunction remains until the hearing on the interlocutory injunction set for July 23, 2024.

The plaintiffs claimed they were removed without due process, facing significant prejudice and financial loss. The court found merit in their affidavits and arguments presented by their counsel, Professors Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, SAN.

The order affects several District Heads across Sokoto State, ensuring their positions remain unchanged until further legal proceedings.
