Kano CP Orders Police to Step Up Battle Against Thuggery

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has called on police officers to intensify efforts in combating thuggery and other violent crimes in the state.

This directive came during a strategic meeting held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical and Operational Commanders.

The meeting’s details were included in a statement signed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, on Thursday. According to the statement, the meeting aimed to strengthen security measures and ensure the safety of residents in Kano State.

CP Garba commended the officers for their commitment to combating crime and maintaining peace, despite the challenging security situation. He urged them to “remain resolute and redouble efforts toward surmounting the scourge of thuggery and other violent criminal activities.”

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of community policing and directed officers to engage actively with stakeholders to prevent incidents of thuggery in their areas of responsibility. He also stressed the necessity of supervision, stating, “I don’t want to see any thug in Kano State.”

Additionally, CP Garba highlighted that accountability and professionalism will be his guiding principles. He reminded the officers to ensure the cleanliness of their offices and detention facilities, emphasizing that he will personally supervise these standards.

“I cannot be sitting in my office to allow thugs (Yan Daba) and other perpetrators of criminal activities to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the state,” CP Garba stated.
