Emir of Kano, Sanusi II, Welcomes His Former Aide, Now Zamfara Governor

His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi-II, welcomed Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawan, at the Emir’s Palace, Gidan Rumfa, today. This visit underscores the enduring relationship between the two prominent figures in Nigerian society, The Spectacles reports.

Governor Lawal and Emir Sanusi-II share a deep-rooted connection that predates their current positions of authority. Their bond dates back to the time when Sanusi Lamido Sanusi held the prestigious position of Central Bank Governor. During this period, Dauda Lawal served as his special adviser on Islamic banking. Together, they spearheaded significant reforms that paved the way for the establishment of Islamic banks such as Jaiz, TAJ, and Lotus banks in Nigeria. This collaboration marked a pivotal moment in the Nigerian banking industry, fostering the growth of a more inclusive financial system.

Lawal’s illustrious career in the Nigerian banking sector is well-recognized. As the Executive Director, Public Sector North, of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, he played a crucial role in shaping the financial landscape of the country. His contributions have solidified his reputation as a key player in the sector, with a deep understanding of the intricacies of the Nigerian economy.

While the precise purpose of Governor Lawal’s visit to the Emir’s palace remains undisclosed, it is widely speculated that the visit was to extend congratulations to Emir Sanusi-II on his reinstatement as the Emir of Kano. This reinstatement followed the dethronement of his predecessor, Aminu Ado Bayero. The visit can be seen as a gesture of support and solidarity, reflecting the strong ties between the two leaders.

The meeting at Gidan Rumfa is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the Emirate of Kano and Zamfara State, fostering greater cooperation and mutual understanding. As both leaders continue to play pivotal roles in their respective domains, their collaboration promises to bring about positive developments for the people of Kano and Zamfara.
