A female suicide bomber targeted a social gathering at T Junction in Marrarraban Gwoza, Borno State, resulting in six fatalities and multiple injuries. The attacker, identified as a young woman in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device amidst the crowd, causing widespread chaos and devastation.
Intelligence sources revealed that all the victims were civilians returning from a wedding party when the attack occurred near a large motor park. Emergency personnel promptly arrived at the scene to rescue the injured and transport them to hospitals in Gwoza.
Medical professionals at the hospital confirmed that at least six individuals lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in the explosion. Borno’s Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, verified the occurrence of the attack.
In a related development, troops from Task Force Wulgo’s Operation Lake Sanity 2 have made significant progress in their efforts against terrorism. They successfully eliminated one terrorist and rescued thirty-four women and children from a Boko Haram camp in the Nigerian communities of Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri, located near the southern shore of Lake Chad.
According to a statement released by Lt Col Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer of MNJTF Ndjamena – Chad, three fighters from the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) stationed at the Jabilaram camp, a remote islet on Lake Chad, surrendered to Task Force Wulgo’s troops. The ISWAP combatants, identified as 20-year-old Babakura Abubakar, 28-year-old Abacha Kyari, and 29-year-old Mohammad Adam, are currently undergoing interrogation.
Lt Col Abdullahi also reported the successful execution of an air interdiction mission on June 9, 2024, at Kollaram. This operation destroyed three suicide vehicle-borne IEDs that were poised for a major terrorist attack. The precise strike demonstrated the effectiveness and capabilities of the air force units from Troops Contributing Countries in neutralizing high-value terrorist targets and mitigating potential threats.
“The combined efforts of ground and air operations are significantly degrading the operational strength and morale of terrorist factions in the region,” Abdullahi stated. He emphasized that the MNJTF remains resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism, ensure the safety of civilians, and foster a secure and peaceful environment conducive to sustaining long-term stability.
