Marafa Sets to Withdraw His Surety for Ex-Gov Yari from EFCC Custody

Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, is one of the prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has announced his intention to withdraw his surety for former Governor Abdulaziz Yari. This move comes amidst a deepening crisis within the Zamfara APC, signaling a significant shift in the political landscape of the state.

Senator Marafa, who played a pivotal role in ensuring Yari’s release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on bail. This act was seen as a gesture of reconciliation, following years of political rivalry. Marafa and Yari had a tumultuous history, marked by a fierce battle in 2019 when Marafa, along with other governorship candidates, united under the G8 group to oppose Yari’s decision of anointing Mukhtar Koguna as the APC governorship candidate for Zamfara.

In 2021, Marafa and Yari set aside their differences and publicly reconciled, promising a new journey of trust and cooperation. However, this fragile peace was short-lived. Marafa later accused Yari of betrayal, particularly during the events of the 2023 general elections, leading to renewed hostilities between their camps.

The current crisis within the Zamfara APC has exacerbated these tensions. Marafa’s decision to distance himself from Yari and withdraw his surety underscores the depth of their ongoing feud. This move is likely to have significant repercussions, not only for the individuals involved but also for the party’s unity and prospects in the upcoming elections.

Interestingly, amidst these internal conflicts, the APC organized a program on Saturday aimed at uniting all factions within the party to mount a formidable challenge against the current PDP government in Zamfara State in the 2027 elections. This initiative raises a crucial question: Will Marafa be willing to embrace this new effort to reconcile and unite the party?

The road to 2027 is fraught with uncertainties for the Zamfara APC. As Marafa and Yari continue their political tug-of-war, the party must navigate these turbulent waters carefully to present a united front. The coming months will reveal whether the APC can heal its internal divisions and rally together for the greater goal of reclaiming power in Zamfara State.
