BREAKING: Court Bars Lawyers from Media Interviews in Kano Emirate Crisis

The Kano State High Court has issued an order prohibiting lawyers involved in the ongoing Kano Emirates Tussle case from granting media interviews. This directive was delivered by the presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, during court proceedings on Thursday.

Justice Adamu-Aliyu stated, “I am giving an order to lawyers not to grant any interview with journalists before and even after my ruling on the respondents’ stay of proceedings application pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.”

The motion, filed ex parte on May 27, was initiated by the Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly. It seeks to restrain Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other dethroned emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from presenting themselves as emirs.

The respondents in the case are Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Emir of Kano; Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero, Emir of Bichi; Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II, Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa, Emir of Rano; and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya, Emir of Gaya. Additional respondents include high-ranking security officials such as the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the State Security Service, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Army.

During the proceedings, the court took a brief recess to deliver its ruling on the stay of proceedings application, which is a crucial step in determining the course of the legal battle over the emirate positions.
