In a ceremonious event held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Headquarters in Abuja, His Excellency Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi has been inaugurated as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Modibbo Adama University of Yola, Adamawa State. The inauguration was part of a larger event dedicated to establishing the governing councils of various federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Aminu Mamanu, the Chairman of the Mas Media Team, informed The Spectacles that the venue was filled with supporters and well-wishers who had come to show their support and happiness for Shinkafi. This enthusiastic turnout underscored the widespread admiration and respect that Shinkafi commands.
Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, who served as the second governor of Zamfara State from 2007 to 2011, is a well-known figure in Nigerian politics. After his initial tenure as governor, Shinkafi made a bid for re-election in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Although unsuccessful, he later switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 elections. Throughout his career, Shinkafi has been recognized for his patience and tolerance, qualities that have endeared him to many Nigerians.
The people of Zamfara State have extended their congratulations to Shinkafi on this significant occasion, celebrating his appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council. This sentiment reflects the high regard in which he is held within his home state and beyond.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved the reconstitution of the Governing Councils and Boards of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, with Shinkafi among the notable nominees. In an earlier statement, Nnamdi Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary for General Services in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized that these appointments were made to ensure the effective management of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The inauguration marks a new chapter for Modibbo Adama University, with Shinkafi poised to bring his extensive experience and respected leadership to the institution.
