Extensive Crime Sweep in Kano Leads to Arrest of 149 Suspect

In an extensive crackdown on crime, the Kano State Police Command has apprehended 149 suspects for various offences between June 24 and July 4, 2024. Among those arrested were 106 thugs and 43 individuals involved in significant criminal activities.

During these operations, the police recovered a substantial arsenal of arms, dangerous weapons, and illicit drugs. They also seized numerous motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles used in the commission of these crimes.

State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, disclosed these developments on Thursday while briefing journalists on the command’s recent operations.

Speaking through the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Garba detailed the nature of the arrests and the items recovered. “In these targeted operations, we seized one Pump-Action Rifle, two motor vehicles, five tricycles, eight motorcycles, and 58 knives, cutlasses, and pointed rods,” Garba reported.

Additionally, law enforcement officers confiscated “87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 23 mobile phones, and twelve solar batteries.”

Garba emphasized that the police have significantly increased their patrols in the affected areas and strengthened collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and other security agencies. This coordinated approach aims to address the root causes of violence and prevent future incidents.

“The coordinated approach is essential to effectively combat the root causes of the violence and prevent future occurrences of such incidents,” he stated.

Reiterating the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order, Garba warned that no effort would be spared in ensuring the security of lives and property in Kano State. “We remain resolute in our commitment to combating thuggery and other criminal activities,” he affirmed.

The police command’s recent actions reflect a robust and proactive stance against crime, underscoring its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community.
