The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has revealed a shocking 3,000 cases of individuals falsely claiming to be university graduates without having attended any university.
This disclosure comes as part of JAMB’s intensified efforts to combat illegal admissions by certain institutions, a problem that has caused significant national embarrassment.
In a report published in the board’s bulletin in Abuja, JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed that these fake graduates never attended classes but claim to have earned degrees.
Oloyede stressed that illegal admissions are a major disservice to the nation and called on institutions to follow proper admission procedures.
“Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university due to the pervasive corruption in the system, but the board has documented over 3,000 such cases,” the bulletin stated.
The issue of illegal admissions has been a longstanding priority for JAMB.
