Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has committed to reinstating His Royal Highness Jonathan Zamuna, the dethroned monarch of Piriga in Lere Local Government Area. Zamuna was removed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai in 2023 following communal clashes between the Gure and Kitimi communities and his non-residence within the chiefdom.
Governor Sani announced his decision on Thursday during a strategic engagement meeting with the State Council of Chiefs. The meeting aimed to discuss development pathways and address insecurity among other issues.
The Governor stated, “I inform our Royal Fathers of the State Government’s intention to fully comply with the Court’s judgment issued on June 10, 2024, restoring His Royal Highness Jonathan Zamuna as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, in Lere LGA.”
He praised the traditional rulers for their dedication to societal betterment and their role in promoting values such as honor, dignity, and humanity. Governor Sani urged them to continue their efforts in advancing their local communities and contributing to state and national development.
“One of the key pillars of our Governance Agenda is Nurturing Citizens’ Engagement. We want to involve our citizens effectively in decision-making processes. Traditional rulers are not only critical stakeholders but also key influencers who deserve attention and respect,” he added.
The Governor assured his support for the traditional rulers and sought their cooperation to accelerate the state’s development.
Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, commended the state government’s infrastructural initiatives and sustained efforts in security management. He pledged the loyalty and support of the traditional rulers, acknowledging the positive impact of the government’s interventions on the lives of the people.
