Zamfara Auditor General Assures Prompt Submission of Audit Reports to Assembly

The Zamfara State Auditor General, Alhaji Abubakar Danmaliki, has assured the timely submission of audited reports to the State House of Assembly, as mandated by the amended 1999 Constitution.

Danmaliki made this assurance while presenting the 2023 audit report to NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Maizare, and various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) during an interactive session at his office in Gusau, the state capital, on Wednesday.

He emphasized that his office is up-to-date with its activities, noting that the 2023 audit report is based on financial statements prepared by the Accountant General.

“As required by Section 125(5) of the amended 1999 Constitution, this office is mandated to submit a report within ninety (90) days of receiving financial statements and accompanying schedules from the Accountant General to the State Assembly, which will then be reviewed by the Committee on Public Accounts.

“I am pleased to welcome you all to this inaugural interaction between my office and you, an event that is the first of its kind held by this office.

“The purpose of your invitation is to update you on our progress. Today’s event aims to facilitate interaction and provide copies of the report.

“Similarly, the Zamfara State Audit Law 2021, Section 40(1), also stipulates provisions to ensure transparency and good governance, which are key priorities for the current administration.”

According to Danmaliki, the standard practice involves the Accountant General preparing annual financial statements and submitting them to the Office of the Auditor General for further examination, certification, and reporting.

“There are additional mandatory requirements, such as the annual audit activity report and the performance audit report on government programs and projects. I am pleased to inform you that while the primary responsibility has been fulfilled, the other two reports will soon be submitted to the Assembly.

“I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to His Excellency for the significant moral and budgetary support provided to this office.”
