NNPP Rebuts Allegations of Writing to Senate Over Kano Emirate Crisis

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has denied authorship of a letter to the Senate accusing the Federal Government of laying siege on Kano State.

In a statement issued by National Chairman Dr. Major Agbo on Thursday in Abuja, the party clarified that the letter, sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed on June 24, did not originate from the NNPP.

The letter, titled “Need for NNPP Federal Lawmakers to Make Urgent and Concerted Efforts to End Immediately the Siege on Kano State by Agents of the Federal Government,” was unauthorized, according to Agbo, who described Ahmed as an impersonator deserving of arrest.

Agbo emphasized that the NNPP’s stance is that the Kano Emirate leadership crisis is an internal matter, rooted in local culture and tradition, and should not involve political parties. He stressed that the party’s focus remains on societal peace, development, and the well-being of Nigerians.

Agbo further noted that the matter is currently before competent courts, and any interference by the National Assembly could complicate the situation. He also highlighted the importance of vigilance and enhanced security in Kano to prevent a breakdown of law and order due to the state government’s actions.

Agbo urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Elder Buba Galadima to adhere to court orders before lodging complaints. He called for the National Assembly to ensure the protection of lives and property in Kano State.

The NNPP, Agbo said, is not interested in any controversy with the Federal Government and its agencies. He urged responsible partnership and law-abiding behavior for the peace and development of Nigeria, and for the Senate to disregard any representation by Ahmed.

Agbo concluded by advising Governor Yusuf to focus on providing quality leadership and distance himself from avoidable tensions in the state, and appealed to the Senate to disregard the letter from expelled NNPP members led by Ahmed.
