APC Vows to Teach NNPP a Lesson in 2027 Over Kano Emirship Dispute

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will face electoral defeat in 2027 due to its stance on the Kano Emirate crisis.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, APC State Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas argued that the issue would negatively impact NNPP’s electoral chances rather than President Bola Tinubu’s. He claimed the NNPP’s presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, lacks the national appeal to be Nigeria’s president. According to Abbas, the APC is now more united and popular, predicting it will secure triple the votes in Kano state compared to the last presidential election, due to the perceived failures of the current administration.

Abbas criticized a media report attributed to NNPP Kano State Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa, stating it is the NNPP and its national leader, Kwankwaso, who will suffer from the ongoing Emirship tussle.

Dungurawa had claimed the Emirship issue could harm President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Abbas dismissed this claim as a sign of NNPP’s frustration at both state and national levels.

Abbas highlighted the internal crisis within the NNPP, which he said exposed its shortcomings. He suggested Kwankwaso’s presidential run in 2023 was a strategy to maintain relevance, facilitate his son-in-law’s political ambitions, and reclaim Kano from the APC.

Abbas noted that Kwankwaso received 1,454,649 votes (6.23% of total votes), mostly from Kano, and questioned how Labour Party candidate Peter Obi outperformed Kwankwaso in several northern states.

The APC Chairman emphasized that the federal government’s only interest in the Kano Emirate crisis is to ensure the rule of law for peace and stability in the state.

Abbas reminded the NNPP of its defeats in 2019 and the narrow escape in 2023, despite having a presidential candidate from Kano state. He criticized the Governor Abba Yusuf-led NNPP government’s performance and policies, suggesting these would be detrimental in the next election.

He pointed out that while other state governors were marking their one year in office with projects, the NNPP was embroiled in the contentious Emirate law issue. He predicted that the people affected by the current administration’s actions would not support the NNPP in the next election.

Abbas concluded by assuring President Tinubu and the APC’s national leadership that the Kano state APC is now more united and poised to secure significantly more votes in the 2027 presidential election.
