Gov Mbah Approves ₦1.9b for Payment of Teachers’ 4-Year Leave Grants

The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has approved the release of ₦1,912,187,753.82 for the payment of four years’ worth of accumulated leave grants owed to public primary school teachers in the state.

This decision, announced by the governor’s media office, aligns with Governor Mbah’s commitment to ensuring that teachers receive all their entitlements. This commitment is part of his administration’s broader goal to enhance teachers’ welfare and boost productivity across the state’s educational sector.

The governor’s office emphasized that the success of the administration’s “260 Smart Green School” policy—aimed at providing quality education and a solid foundation for the children of Enugu—hinges on the motivation and well-being of teachers. Ensuring that teachers are adequately compensated and motivated is seen as crucial to achieving these educational reforms.

Previously, Governor Mbah approved the full implementation of the ₦30,000 minimum wage for primary school teachers and local government workers, further demonstrating his dedication to improving the welfare of educators and public servants in the state.
