Kano Govt Takes Action Against Groups Promoting LGBT Rights

The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has declared that his administration will not tolerate any group suspected of promoting or advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights within the state.

The governor’s directive follows rising tensions over alleged activities promoting same-sex marriage in Kano.

State Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, announced this on Sunday in Kano, addressing concerns about an alleged federal agreement related to LGBTQ rights.

Dantiye emphasized that the state government will reject any agreement that supports LGBT activities, as it contradicts Kano’s norms, values, and moral standards.

The governor has instructed the Hisbah Board to crack down on groups promoting LGBT rights in the state.

“I spoke with the governor, and he expressed his disapproval of the alleged agreement, even though it has not yet been confirmed. He assured me that there is no room for LGBT activities in Kano,” Dantiye said. “As you know, 98% of Kano’s population are Muslims, and our religion opposes this immorality, so we can’t accept it.”

Regarding allegations of groups promoting LGBT activities, Dantiye stated that the government has received citizens’ concerns, and the governor has ordered Hisbah to investigate and take action.

“We also discussed this with the governor, and he directed Hisbah to investigate and crack down on these groups. We will take legal action as appropriate,” he added.
