Hashim Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has accused President Bola Tinubu of trying to destabilize the state by imposing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, due to their shared Yoruba heritage.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday about the NNPP’s achievements in the past year, Dungurawa argued that there is no justification for the special protection given to Emir Bayero by the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other security agencies against the state government’s interests.
Dungurawa warned that President Tinubu’s alleged interference in the Kano Emirate issue could backfire in the 2027 elections. He stated, “Your perceived stance on the ongoing Kano Emirate Tussle will surely work against you in 2027 because if you think you can use it to gain ground in Kano, when the chips are down, you will realize your mistakes.”
He further criticized the use of Emir Bayero’s Yoruba lineage as a means to maintain his position in Kano and urged the President to resolve the Kano Emirate conflict by removing the deposed Emir from the state.
Dungurawa also announced that the NNPP plans to field Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate in the 2027 election, expressing confidence that Kwankwaso would become the next president of Nigeria.
Additionally, Dungurawa called for a review of the 2019 election outcomes, claiming that the immediate past governor of Kano State and APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, did not legitimately win his second term as governor.
