BREAKING: Tinubu Creates Ministry of Livestock Devt to Resolve Farmers-Herders Crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on Tuesday. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President did not name the minister for the new ministry, noting that if a new nominee is chosen, the name must be forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

Present at the inauguration were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other cabinet members.

This move follows President Tinubu’s approval on September 15, 2023, of the establishment of a Presidential Committee dedicated to reforming the livestock industry and providing long-term solutions to the recurring clashes between herders and farmers in the country. The committee’s formation was in response to a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
