Bandits have launched deadly attacks on Kaduna communities, resulting in two deaths and 19 abductions.
In Dagwarga village, two individuals were killed, while 19 others were kidnapped from nearby Maraban Walijo in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reports Daily Trust.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, a resident of Dagwarga, informed the press on Tuesday that the bandits’ assault seemed to be a retaliatory strike. “The bandits abducted 19 residents from Maraban Walijo on Sunday. One bandit was killed during the incident by the community. They returned for revenge on Monday but attacked Dagwarga instead due to heavy security in Maraban Walijo,” Abubakar explained.
The attackers struck Dagwarga at around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, firing erratically and killing Alhaji Danlami Goni and Alhaji Auwalu Bawa. “We have just buried the two victims according to Islamic rites,” Abubakar added.
Daily Trust also reported that Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna Police Spokesman, was unreachable for comments.
In a separate incident, the children of a Kaduna Judge, Janet Galadima, who were abducted 15 days ago, have been released. Barr. Godwin Ochai, chairman of the Kaduna State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), confirmed their release on Tuesday.
Judge Galadima, who presides over the Customary Court in Sabo, Kaduna, was kidnapped along with her four children on June 23, 2024. The bandits killed her 14-year-old son, Victor, when the ransom could not be paid. The judge was released a few days later, but her remaining three children remained in captivity.
The NBA’s Kaduna branch expressed gratitude to God and to all those who supported the family during the ordeal.
