Factional APC Chairman Confirms Danfulani Maikatako’s Suspension from Party

The Aminu Sani Jaji faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed the suspension of Tukur Umar Danfulani, the former Zamfara State party chairman, and other members who were suspended by their respective wards due to an ongoing internal crisis.

At a stakeholders meeting held in Gusau, the state capital, Alhaji Isiyaku Ajiya Anka, claiming to be the Acting Chairman of the APC in Zamfara, accused Danfulani and his group of causing division within the party and denying other State Executive Committee members their rights. Anka highlighted that a majority of the party members in the state were excluded from participating in party activities, which has exacerbated the internal discord.

The Spectacles recalled that Danfulani was initially suspended by the Galadima Ward in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The ward executive members cited poor leadership and mismanagement as the primary reasons for his suspension. Specifically, 16 out of 27 executive members of the ward signed a petition for Maikatako’s dismissal from the party, indicating a significant lack of confidence in his leadership.

The allegations against Danfulani include accusations of sidelining party affairs to individuals who were not part of his executive team, actions which the ward executives stated were against the party’s constitution. This mismanagement, according to the ward executives, justified the suspension and subsequent call for a new leadership structure in the state.

The Galadima ward executives have called upon the national leadership of the APC to intervene by appointing a caretaker chairman for Zamfara State. They insist that Danfulani is no longer a member of the APC and should not be allowed to continue in any leadership capacity within the party.

The ongoing crisis within the Zamfara APC has raised concerns about the potential implications for future elections. Drawing parallels to the events of 2019, stakeholders warn that if the current conflict is not resolved, a similar scenario could unfold in the 2027 elections. They emphasize that any candidate emerging as the party’s flag bearer under Danfulani’s chairmanship might face legal challenges, jeopardizing their legitimacy and electoral victory.

The internal crisis within the Zamfara APC underscores the urgent need for reconciliation and decisive leadership intervention. The three faction in the party highlight the party’s deep divisions. As the 2027 elections approach, the resolution of this conflict will be crucial in ensuring the stability and unity of the APC in Zamfara State.
