The Zamfara State Geographic Information Service (ZAGIS) has called on landowners in the state to obtain certificates of ownership to ensure the safety and security of their lands.
In a statement issued to *The Spectacles*, Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Internal Revenue Service (ZIRS), Sanusi Ibrahim S/Yamma, conveyed the message delivered by the Executive Secretary of ZAGIS, ESV Abubakar Muhammed Mafara. Mafara made this appeal during a phone-in program on Zamfara Radio titled ‘Da Ruwan Ciki Akanja Na Rijiya,’ which is sponsored by ZIRS.
According to Mafara, all plots of land without proper certification are at risk of being deemed illegal and may be subject to revocation by the government. He emphasized that ZAGIS is a significant revenue-generating agency in the state, with a mandate that includes the distribution and issuance of land ownership certificates among other functions.
ESV Ummaru Maru, Director of Land at ZAGIS, elaborated on the various categories of taxes collected and other activities carried out by the agency. He highlighted the importance of proper land certification in ensuring legal ownership and contributing to state revenue.
Alhaji Hadi Bawa Gusau, Director of Information and Intelligence Gathering at ZIRS, represented the Executive Chairperson, Hajiya Rakiya Ahmed Dodo, during the program. Gusau explained that ZIRS invited ZAGIS to participate in the program as a key stakeholder in revenue generation. The aim was to inform the public about the agency’s functions and enhance revenue collection in the state.
During the program, callers contributed their opinions and suggestions for the overall development of the state. The Executive Secretary was accompanied by all directors of ZAGIS, highlighting the importance of the initiative.
Other notable attendees included Zayyanu Muhammad, Deputy Director of Information and Intelligence Gathering at ZIRS, and Sanusi Ibrahim S/Yamma, PRO of ZIRS. The presence of these officials underscored the collaborative effort to promote land ownership certification and boost revenue generation in Zamfara State.
