Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has stated that the nationwide protests against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are justified. He emphasized that these demonstrations are a call for accountability and good governance.
Dalung criticized the government’s response to the protests, urging leadership to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians over personal wealth. He voiced his concerns through a series of statements on the social media platform X on Saturday.
He referred to the government as a “locust cabal” that prioritizes wealth over the nation’s well-being. “Make no mistake about it, we love our country, but @officialABAT and his locust cabal love only the wealth of Nigeria,” Dalung stated.
“The protests are to demand accountability from those who are destroying our common heritage. Nigerians have nowhere to go but @officialABAT has France, while others have Europe, Canada, and the USA. Therefore, @aonanuga1956 calling out Nigerians as those planning to destabilize Nigeria is not only uncharitable but wicked,” he continued.
Dalung asserted that the generation of Nigerians demanding good governance, accountability, and justice are more entitled to the country than the current group in power. He affirmed, “Take it to the bank, the protests are sacrosanct.”
The former minister also warned against the government’s attempts to use divisive tactics to undermine the protests, describing such strategies as “antiquated.” He added, “Deploying antics of divide and rule will not only fail but is antiquated. The only antidote to the protests is for @officialABAT and his cult of plunderers to surrender to the demands of the people.”
He dismissed fears that the protests could lead to anarchy as “evil imaginations,” stressing that the demand is for good governance, which is not unreasonable.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, recently accused supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, of planning nationwide protests. Onanuga stated that President Tinubu has a four-year mandate to run his agenda and suggested that those calling for protests should wait until 2027 to either re-elect him or choose another leader.
