Police Move to Revamp Dilapidated Barracks, Improve Living Conditions

The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled plans to address the long-standing state of its barracks nationwide.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the plans on Saturday on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a post by a user, @chiditweets042, who shared a photo of the run-down Police Barracks in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Adejobi stated that the process to address the accommodation problems has begun. “We have commenced the process to address accommodation problems in the police. All the dilapidated barracks in Lagos (and in other states) will be reconstructed,” he said.

He added that the relocation of personnel is ongoing to facilitate the construction. “The process of relocation of our personnel is ongoing so that we can commence construction ASAP. It’s one step after the other. That’s why the IGP organized the first-ever Nigeria Police Housing Summit recently with a view to tackling these problems across the country.”

Adejobi emphasized the police force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel. “We are aware of the problems, and we are sensitive to the welfare of our personnel. We deserve to live fine, with dignity and high esteem.”

In April, the NPF held its first Nigeria Police Housing Summit with the theme “Renewed Hope for Police Housing in Nigeria,” where the federal government pledged to establish a ₦100bn Police Housing Fund.
