Youth Killed by Friends in Zaria, ₦800k Withdrawn from His Account

The body of a young man, identified as an indigene of Gombe State, was discovered with deep cuts near the busy PZ area in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State over the weekend.

The deceased and his alleged killers were reportedly in Zaria, hoping to be recruited into the Nigerian Army. However, the Public Relations Officer at the Army Depot, when contacted, stated, “We also heard of the incident where a civilian was robbed and killed around PZ. The Zaria Divisional Police is handling this matter. You can contact them for further inquiries.”

A source, speaking anonymously, informed journalists that the young man was allegedly “hacked to death by his colleagues, who then withdrew about ₦800,000 from his account.”

“His lifeless body, found on Saturday morning around the PZ area, had knife cuts. The deceased had come from Gombe State and had told his friends that his parents sent about ₦1 million into his account. On Friday, he gave his ATM card and password to one of the friends to withdraw ₦10,000 to buy food for them,” the source recounted.

The source further suggested that the friends are suspected to be behind the killing since they knew he had money and possessed his ATM password. The corpse has been deposited at a medical facility in Zaria.

Despite their failure to be recruited into the Army, the young men had stayed on in Zaria. The recruitment process had moved from Falgore forest due to frequent snake bites. The authorities have since chased them away from the PZ area, and they have relocated to the polo ground, where they continue to cause disturbances to the neighboring community.
