GUSAU, Zamfara State – The union of motorcycle riders organized a protest in Gusau, the state capital, to voice their grievances against the Zamfara State Road Traffic Agency (ZAROTA). The protest took place at the Gusau Emir’s Palace, presided over by His Royal Highness, Ibrahim Bello.
The protesters expressed their frustrations with the pressures they face from ZAROTA, highlighting their reliance on motorcycle riding as their primary means of livelihood. They emphasized the hardships they endure due to the current economic situation in Nigeria, including poverty, hunger, and insecurity in Zamfara State.
One protester articulated the collective sentiment: “We don’t have any business we rely on except motorcycle riding. We are suffering from the current Nigerian situation—poverty, hunger, and the ongoing insecurity in the state. We are not opposing their work, but they have to consider the current suffering of Nigerians.”
The motorcycle riders stressed that their profession is one of constant struggle to meet basic needs. They called on the relevant authorities to address their concerns and find solutions to alleviate their plight.
The protest aimed to draw attention to their difficult circumstances and urge the government intervention in the situation.
