The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the distribution companies (DISCOs) have been directed by the House of Representatives to reverse the recent tariff hike for Band A customers.
This directive was issued on Tuesday following the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Power.
Recently, NERC announced an increase in the electricity tariff, raising the rate to N225 per kilowatt-hour for Band A customers.
Victor Nwokolo, Chairman of the Committee on Power, who presented the report, emphasized that many Nigerians cannot afford the new tariff. Consequently, the Committee recommended a return to the previous tariff structure.
